Internet is less and less free

That is what emerges from all the analyzes performed by any serious and independent body, and one of them is the Freedom House.

In their latest Freedom on the Net 2019 report they highlight the partisan behaviors of both large companies and many governments.

Companies like Facebook allow politicians to publish their lies on their social network, and in general all social networks are dedicated to transmitting misinformation and getting huge amounts of data from all users and their contacts.

Their business has nothing to do with politics, nor with the truth, nor with democracy, but with generating the maximum possible benefit by any means.

Somehow the future of Internet freedom will depend on the ability of the Society to control social networks. It sounds hard, but that is the reality.

In their report, the people of Freedom House indicate that in the last year the interference in the elections increased, without many of the governments and social networks doing anything to prevent it.

In the previous photo you can see a snapshot of the affected countries, and you can see that in the majority it did so in a negative way.

And if the interferences in the elections increase, it is because countries do little to eliminate them, since many rulers have realized that propaganda works better than censorship, and they dedicate themselves to emit misinformation.

For many it is worth everything in order to stay in power, or to do everything possible to achieve it.

They care very little about truth and democracy, and the Internet is a very powerful tool for their interests.

It is the Society that has to defend the values ​​of freedom, democracy, privacy, etc … and we each have our grain of sand to contribute.
