Did you believe that cash spreads Covid-19?
If you did you were quite naive, because it is not like that. According to statements by the Vice President of the ECB (Luis de Guindos) the virus remains longer on credit cards than on money bills.
That was a hoax (like so many others) that nobody knows where it started, but we could see that in many stores they encouraged us to pay with a card instead of cash for “security” reasons. They cheat us as they wish.
It is true that card payment is spreading more and more and that it is very convenient (we can do it with our mobile phone, etc.), but it is also very true that when we make our payments online, all our information is recorded by the companies that carry it out, especially banks, and that information, in addition to serving them, is useful to be resold to third parties.
And that generates (or can generate) additional benefits for them.
They tell us, also to reassure us, that the information they send to others is done anonymously; and that’s only half true. Because there are companies called “data brokers” that are capable of using “big data” and generating profiles of people or companies. And those data brokers are doing very well their business, every day better.
Online anonymity is very scarce and users in general make it quite easy for them with our laziness and inexperience.
For some time now, the possibility of using “virtual cards” has been offered to preserve our anonymity a little more.
Welcome are all the tools that help us in that sense, but let us be clear that when paying what most protects our privacy is to do it with money in hand.
Dear friends, let us be aware that we are in a digitized society that seeks the suppression of our privacy. We and our data are the “business model” of large technology companies.
Let’s not believe the hoaxes that money infects us. What really hurts us is not having it.
